I made the staff and the coat myself, yeah The staff is made of a bunch of different things. The pole part is PVC pipe, and the top and bottom have a base of foamboard, and the designs were done in craft foam. After everything was cut out and glued together, I paper mached the whole thing, gessoed it, sanded it, and then painted it. The small gems are resin, and the big gem is styrofoam covered in a vinyl metallic sticker and suspended by fishing line. The coat, on the other hand, is faux suede upholstry fabric on the outside, lined in satin, and with quilt batting in between to make it puffy. Then it's got fur that I hand sewed on the edges, and the applique I did with satin on the sleeves. The coat took about two days, but the staff took a few weeks because of all the cutting and paper macheing and sanding.
Well it looks really great in the pic. I'm going to be part of a Tsubasa group for Otakon 2013 and our Fai was wondering about how to do the staff- because we're actually going as a genderbent group she may not want to bring a full-sized one but she's pretty handy with prop materials so I'll tell her what you used and show her a picture. Did you cast the resin for the gems in a mold? And did you make said mold? Because I think she knows how to do that, I'll ask her. Bluh...I have to figure out Kurogane's sword for myself before then too.... 0_0
